Among the new words are abbreviations, COVID-19 related phrases, new political terms, and other miscellaneous words.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp; Some new terms include \u201cTBH\u201d and \u201cFTW\u201d, which stand for \u201cto be honest\u201d and \u201cfor the win\u201d respectively. According to the Merriam-Webster website, these terms ease regular communication online. \u201cWe\u2019ve been communicating online for decades now&#8230;The quick and informal nature of messaging, texting, and tweeting has contributed to a vocabulary newly rich in efficient and abbreviated expression.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp; COVID-19 terms include \u201cvaccine passport,\u201d which is a \u201cphysical or digital document providing proof of vaccination against one or more infectious diseases (such as COVID-19).\u201d Another term includes \u201csuper-spreader,\u201d which is \u201can event or location at which a significant number of people contract the same communicable disease.\u201d Merriam-Webster believes that \u201cthe pandemic story isn\u2019t over, and neither is the need for more vocabulary to describe the policy and research developments connected to COVID-19.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp; New words in politics include \u201cwhataboutism,\u201d which is \u201cthe act or practice of responding to an accusation of wrongdoing by claiming that an offense committed by another is similar or worse.\u201d \u201cVote-a-rama,\u201d which is an unusually large number of debating and votes in one day due to a particular legislature, is also included. The word \u201cbecause\u201d has also received a new definition, and can now be defined as \u201c\u2026it can be used, for example, to avoid delving into the overly technical (\u2018the process works because science\u2019) or to dismiss explanation altogether (\u2018they left because reasons\u2019).\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp; However, there are several words that may come as a surprise to several people. \u201cFluffernutter\u201d is included in the new words, and it is defined as a sandwich with both peanut butter and marshmallow ingredients. Another one is \u201cfaux-hawk,\u201d a hairstyle resembling a mohawk. One new word that may seem interesting to some is \u201cdad bod,\u201d which the dictionary defines as \u201ca physique regarded as typical of an average father\u2026one that is slightly overweight and not extremely muscular.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp; With the several new words added to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, it\u2019s evident that language never stops growing. As stated on the Merriam-Webster website, \u201cJust as the language never stops evolving, the dictionary never stops expanding.
