The Ponte Vedra boy\u2019s tennis team suffered a tough loss versus Creekside this week. The team had high hopes coming off a 6-1 blowout over Nease, but Creekside proved a tougher matchup and acted as a wakeup call for Ponte Vedra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Although the team lost this week, the future of Ponte Vedra boy\u2019s tennis has never been brighter. Out of the seven matches played, Ponte Vedra sophomores and juniors won three, while the seniors weren\u2019t able to snatch a single win. This year\u2019s season performance may be questionable with a lackluster performance from the team\u2019s leaders, but next year\u2019s team is shaping up to be quite formidable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Despite this week\u2019s loss, junior Ethan Glaze and sophomore Connor Vernon played outstanding matches. Glaze and Vernon won their first sets with scores of 6-1 and 6-2 and both ended the matches with 6-4 wins in set two. If the rest of the team shapes up and plays nearly as dominant as these two d, Ponte Vedra may have another state championship this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The team’s next match will be against Fernandina Beach High School, which is another tough opponent, but the players are determined to earn their winning record back. “We know we can do better, and we’re going to do everything we can to make sure we come out on top next week,” said team captain Grant Price.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
