With cloudy yet windless weather in the late afternoon, conditions were perfect for both throwing event athletes to compete without wind interference, and for the long distance athletes to stay cool for their lengthy ordeal.

The PVHS boys team gave an impressive performance, most notably with senior athletes, Gabe Engl, Brody Mcleod, and Colin Butler each scoring 1st place in the 110m hurdles, the shot put, and the discus. Engl won the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.81, and then continued to place second in the 400m hurdles as well during what he described as, “an exhausting and awesome day.” Mcleod also competed remarkably well in the shot put with a PR of 14.71, which earned him 1st place almost an entire meter above the 2nd place contender. This 2nd place athlete was Butler who later in the day earned himself the 1st place position in the discus with a throw of 51.96m, a welcome achievement after his recent injury to his hand. Further notable achievements by the boys were earned by 3rd place junior, Jack Feather jumping 1.73m in the long jump, and 3rd place sophomore Jasper Graham running 5:00.95 in the 1600m run.

“We had a really exhausting and awesome day.”
Gabe Engle (12)

The PVHS girls team also saw some very impressive performances, the majority of which by the younger sophomore class. The 2nd place positions in both the 800m run and the triple jump were earned by sophomores, Giana Dreckman with a time of 2:41.30, and Alyssa Abruzzini with a jump of 9.43m. Additionally, the 3rd place positions in both the girls high jump and long jump were earned by other sophomore athletes, Valentina Sala, who jumped 1.37m, and Charlotte Somppi, who jumped 4.57m. The senior class of PVHS was sure to also make an appearance on the leaderboard for the girls events as well, as senior, Ava Thompson earned a 4th place position in the shot put with a throw of 8.13m

The PVHS Track Team, even while competing in fewer events than most of the other teams present, earned the 4th place Team spot with over nine athletes in both the girls and boys placing in the top three of their respective events. The PVHS Track Team is looking forward to continuing their preparations for the District Meet at our own Facility in two weeks, and they intend to continue their two year streak of District Domination.

Pictured: Ashley Aipperspach (12) getting a personal record in the girls long jump (@fenneysflics)

By: Charlie Hilley The Ponte Vedra High School (PVHS) Track Team packed their bags at 4:00 PM on Mar. 25 to attend Mandarin High School’s “Last Chance” meet, a yearly tradition that brings teams from all across the Northeast Region…

[9
138,149,136,390
