Sharks Cross Country ends with Mixed Results at the Cecil Field Summer Classic

By Jake Hilley

On Aug 24, the Sharks Cross Country team took part in the Cecil Field Summer Classic. The boys started the season off strong with your Miles Wicks running a solid 16:27 in the 5k, with Luke Ross finishing close behind with a 16:34. Despite a strong start, senior superstar Tanner Brinsko dropped out of the race midway due to lagging injuries. Walker White (16:37), Evan Weinroth (17:18), and Hayden Edinger (17:41) all had strong races as well helping the sharks reach a respectable 308 points. Frank England, a junior at PVHS, said, “It was a grueling race but we persevered as a team and came through.”

The girls had an amazing meet as they placed second overall, and look to ride this momentum throughout this season. Senior, Daisy Ross ran an 18:28 (second best overall) and looks to lead this team to a plausible state title. Olivia Kamisky (19:23), Savannah LaVasser (19:40), and Ella McGowan (20:34) all helped the team to a strong start to the season as well as Coach Canada’s first meet under the helm as coach of the sharks. Despite the departure of strong past seniors such as Ricky Circelli and Hilaree Vega, the Sharks look to be an even better and more determined team looking to win early and often.
