The Sharks Conclude a Good Week

The Ponte Vedra High School Sharks tipped off against the Spruce Creek High School Hawks. The game began with the Sharks on fire on offense. They racked up a total of 21 points in the first quarter. The game continued with the Sharks executing well on both sides of the ball. The Hawks couldn’t get anything going on offense in the first half. The score at halftime was 39-15 Ponte Vedra, the rest of the game was more of the same. The Sharks dominated quarters three and four. They finished strong, outscoring the Hawks to win 80-57 in dominant fashion. Senior point guard, Alex Katsikas led the charge, draining seven shots and scoring 21 points.

         The Sharks’ next matchup was against the Buchholz High School Bobcats. The Sharks entered this game looking to extend their win streak after winning the past two games. The game started well for the Sharks as the first quarter ended with them leading 13-7. In the second quarter, it was flipped as the Bobcats outscored the Sharks by 6. At halftime, the score was 26-26. The Bobcats came out strong to start the second half and took control. They won the third quarter 13-7. The Sharks needed to mount a comeback in the fourth quarter. The Bobcats didn’t let that happen and closed out the game. The Bobcats clinched the win with a 49-42 final. Junior small forward, Maddox Palmer scored 17 points in the Sharks’ loss.

         The Creekside High School Knights were the next opponent for the Sharks. The game started off as a back-and-forth battle. The first quarter ended and the Sharks held a slim lead, 15-14. The Sharks began to pull away in the second quarter, winning the quarter 13-9. At halftime, the score was 28-23. The third quarter was the opposite of the second; the Knights mounted a comeback. They won the quarter 17-12. Going into the fourth quarter, the score was tied at 40-40. The Sharks could not seal the deal as they only scored 7 points in the fourth compared to the Knights’ 17. The Sharks fell short, losing the game 57-47. Senior point guard, David Sanchez Barrera scored 15 points in the loss. Junior small forward, Max Mracek said, “The team is starting to play more together and have good chemistry going.”
