The Sharks Close Out an Impressive Season

The Ponte Vedra High School basketball team took on San Jose Prep High School Storm. The first quarter was an offensive showdown, with each team was knocking down baskets left and right. The second quarter took a complete 180 has the Sharks and the Storm only combined for 13 points. The score at half was 29-23. The Sharks started playing their game and slowly started to pull away from the Storm. The defense of the Sharks came up big in the second half holding them 22 points. This allowed the offense to open up and knock down shots. The Sharks went onto win 62-45. Junior power forward, Trace Westercamp scored 13 in the win.

The rival Nease High School Panthers were the Sharks next opponent. The Sharks already defeated the Panthers once this year. The Sharks took the lead early and never looked back the rest of the game. Their big quarter was the second were they couldn’t miss a shot scoring 21. Junior power forward, Max Mracek , stated “We look to continue playing good basketball, and make a push in the playoffs.” This put the Sharks in a commanding lead at halftime. The game slowed down for the Sharks in the second half but it did not matter as they had already done enough. The Sharks won by a score of 61-48. Westercamp scored 20 in the win.

The final game in the regular season for the Sharks was against a very good team, the Ribault High School Trojans. The Sharks took a 9-point lead early in the first quarter as they couldn’t miss a shot. The second quarter was even better offensively for the Sharks. They scored 22 points alone. The score at halftime was 41-25 in favor of the Sharks. The Trojans flipped a switch in the second half as they started to make a comeback. The trojans scored 21 points in the fourth, but that wasn’t enough. The Sharks survived the late game scare and won 68-65. Junior small forward, Maddox Palmer scored 20 in the Sharks win. The Sharks finished the regular season with a 16-8 record heading into districts.
