On Nov. 28 Ponte Vedra High School (PVHS) took on Mainland High School (NHS) for the Regional playoff game. The Sharks started off strong on defense. Mainland fumbled the ball and senior linebacker, Bennett Baumgartner recovered the ball for the Sharks. On offense, the Sharks had a great drive down the field, led by senior quarterback, Cole Rosendahl. Junior running back, Alex Winkles ran the ball into the endzone for a Sharks touchdown. NHS’s offense had a bad snap, and the ball went over their quarterback’s head. Senior corner, Cooper Sobiecki recovered the ball for the Sharks near the endzone. The Sharks converted this into a field goal by junior kicker, Noah Ash to make a 10-0 score. Mainland drove past the Sharks defense and converted a field goal. This ended the half with a 10-3 score in favor of the Sharks. The PVHS offense out strong with a great pass from Rosendahl to senior wide receiver, Davitt Doherty and a Sharks touchdown. The Mainland offense fumbled again, and Baumgartner had another recovery for the Sharks. Again, on defense, sophomore strong safety, Hudson Hauseman had an amazing read and picked off NHS’s pass. Rosendahl had an amazing throw to junior wide receiver, Tucker Henderson but just missed the catch. The Shark’s defense, still on fire, got another interception from senior corner, Davis Latina. NHS passed for a touchdown to finish the third quarter. The Shark’s offense had a good offensive drive and Ash finished it off with a field goal. The Sharks had a big stop on fourth down thanks to senior linebacker, Talan Babin. On the offensive side, senior wide receiver, Jack Berquist ran in for a PVHS touchdown. The Shark’s defense finished strong and stopped Mainland offense one more time to end the game. The Shark’s won Regionals 27-10 and will advance to the semi-finals next week on Dec. 5 in Lakeland Florida. “Getting this far is super special, and we’re not done yet,” said Rosendahl.
