Ponte Vedra Sharks Make Strong Showing at Area Swim Meet

The Ponte Vedra High School (PVHS) Sharks swim teams turned in several strong performances at their recent meet, with both the girls’ and boys’ teams placing among the top schools in the team standings.

The PVHS girls finished second overall with 435 points, trailing Creekside High School’s 477 points. Nease High School (NHS) finished third with 314 points, while the Bolles School (TBS) placed fourth with 227.

The PVHS boys also had a strong showing, finishing second with 358 points behind TBS 448. NHS followed in third with 413 points.

One of The Sharks standout performances came in the boys 100-yard backstroke. Senior, Aaron Yang won the A-final with a time of 49.83 seconds, improving on his preliminary time of 53.00. Yang finished ahead of Bartram Trails’ Case Dibacco, who recorded 53.41, and Nease’s Jax Liles, who finished 54.07.

“I felt like I was in a movie,” Yang stated.

Ponte Vedra also had a strong showing in the girls 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of Juniors, Abby Wheeler and Lily Ewer, Senior, Mady Tulloch and Freshman, Mikayla Costello finished second with a time of 1:40.03. CHS won the relay at 1:37.00.

“It was such a fun moment, and I was so grateful to experience it with my team!” Junior, Lily Ewer exclaimed.

The boys 100 backstroke also featured several Sharks swimmers. Sophomore, CJ Anunciacion finished sixth in the A-final at 58.33. Ponte Vedra’s Freshman, Ames Rudometkin finished ninth in the B-final with a time of 59.06.

The results highlighted PVHS’ depth across both boys and girl’s events. With the girls’ and boys’ teams both sitting in second place through Event 24, the Sharks remained a major presence in the team competition while individual swimmers continued to contribute valuable points.
