The Ponte Vedra High School girls soccer team eliminated Fletcher Beach High School to win the ‘FSHAA 6A District 3 Championship’ by a score of 2-1. Last Tuesday, the Sharks started off with a bang, scoring two goals in the first half. Seniors, Tamyln Parkes and Victoria Villasana initiated the win by scoring for the team.
In the second half, the Sharks had to build a brick wall in defense as Fletcher scored a goal. Without a doubt, the ladies prospered under pressure and triumphed for the district win. “We worked well as a team and winning the district tournament gives us confidence that we are going to states once again,” described sophomore defensive-mid, Carson Beliakoff. Sophomore midfielder, Alex Patuel has also gained confidence in advancing towards states. “If we stay strong and connected on and off the field, I believe we have a great shot at the state title again,” stated Alex. Currently ranked ninth in the country and third in Florida, the ladies are one step closer to states as they face regional quarterfinals next Tuesday in the Tank.
