Sharks Football Continues Hot Streak Against Pedro Meneddez

By Johnny Inama

The Ponte Vedra High School football team had their fourth game of the season on Sep. 22 against Pedro Menendez High School. The Sharks came in with a record of 2-1, coming off two straight wins, while Menendez came in at 1-3 off three straight losses. The Sharks got on the board first with a 3-yard touchdown run from junior running back, Brian Case, to make it 7-0 Sharks early in the game. The Shark defense followed the offensive score with a score of their own as they caught Menendez in their own end zone with a safety to make it 9-0.

The dominant run game continued as Case found the end zone yet again from a yard out to make it 16-0 Sharks. This was followed by multiple field goals by each team, making it 25-12 into the third quarter. Later into the fourth quarter, Case scored again from two yards out this time, and the game ended with a score of 32-12 Sharks. The dominant rushing attack won the game for the Sharks, as they finished with 282 rushing yards behind the offensive line that controlled the line of scrimmage. “I’ll give the credit to the offensive line with the great blocking because they definitely made life easier for a running back,” said Case.

The passing game was not as effective as the game prior, as senior quarterback, Ben Burk, finished 6/14 for 42 yards and an interception. However, Burk ran for 98 yards on 11 carries and Case ran for 141 yards and 4 touchdowns on 27 carries. The defense was dominant as five different players finished with a sack. An interception came from senior defensive back, Zac Martus, a blocked punt came from junior defensive back, JM Pawlick, and a blocked field goal came from senior defensive back, Joe Mahoney.
