The Ponte Vedra High School (PVHS) boys volleyball team ended their regular season with a respectable record of 8-7. On Monday, Apr. 22, PVHS swept St. Augustine High School, 3-0. The set scores were 25-17, 32-30, and 25-11. Each set was varied and hard-fought, but the PVHS Sharks pulled off another clean sweep for the season. “Our team worked well together to secure this win; especially in the second set when we fought for every point. We never gave up and that helped us dominate this match,” described senior middle blocker, Hunter Calamari. Calamari led the team in blocks and kills from the middle.
On Tuesday, Apr. 23, PVHS faced rival Nease High School. The Nease Panthers bested the PVHS Sharks, 0-3, with set scores of 23-25, 22-25, 23-25. The evenly matched teams posed for an entertaining game, with nail-biting set points. “Although we lost the game, we played comfortably with tons of team chemistry. We can definitely work on our passing and defense for the next games,” stated senior outside hitter, Griffin Morgan. As the Sharks head into the postseason, they have their goals in mind. “We play Nease again in the district tournament. We know we must work on serve-receive and digging in order to beat them,” explained Calamari. The PVHS boys have a rematch against Nease High School for the district quarterfinal match with a date to be announced.
