Sharks Boys Basketball Wins Two then Snaps Win Streak

The Ponte Vedra High School Sharks took on their rival the Nease High School Panthers. The Sharks basketball team look to continue their four-game win streak. It was a slow moving first quarter as both teams rallied for five points each. The score was 5-5 entering the second quarter. The Sharks put together a huge second quarter scoring 16 points and holding the panthers to 6 points in the quarter. The score at halftime was 21- 11, the Sharks were leading. The third quarter was won by the Panthers as they scored 17 versus the sharks 12 points. The Sharks defense held strong holding the Panthers to 7 points. The Sharks defeated the Panthers 46-35 taking the rivalry win. Senior point guard, David Sanchez Barrera lead the scoring for the Sharks scoring 10 points on 50 percent shooting.

The Sharks took on the Bartram Trail High School Bears, as they look on to extend their win streak to 6 games. The Sharks defense started hot as they held the Bears to 4 points the entire first quarter. The second quarter was more of the same as the Sharks defense only allowed 8 points in the second quarter and scoring 12 points. The Sharks were leading at half by a score of 24- 12. The offenses of the Sharks continued their dominance in the game as they outscored the Bears by 6 in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter the Sharks offense took over, scoring a total of 19 points alone in the quarter. The Sharks defeated the Bears 56-29. Junior small forward, Maddox Palmer scored 14 points on 43 percent shooting in the Sharks win.

In the midst of the Sharks 6 game win streak the Sharks took on the Impact Christian Academy Lions. The first quarter was a back and fourth game with neither team pulling away. The second quarter was more of the same neither the Sharks nor the Lions could pull away. In the third quarter there was more back and forth action, the Lions looked as if they were going to start pulling away. The Sharks looked to mount a fourth quarter comeback, as they had a chance to make a game tying shot. The Sharks missed the shot and the Lions defeated the Sharks 64-61. The Lions snapped the Sharks 6 game win streak. Sanchez Barrera scored 19 points on 50 percent shooting. Sanchez Barrera spoke on the sharks 6 game win streak being snapped “even though the streak is gone we still have the best basketball inside of us.”
