Both the Boys and Girls Track and Field teams headed down south to Flagler Palm Coast to participate in the 4th Annual North Florida/South Florida Challenge. The boys’ team didn’t have their best meet as they placed eleventh and scored only 27 point but they were missing many key athletes. Once again, senior hurdler, Ben Miller did outstanding in the 110 meter hurdles placing third and ran a time of 14.75 seconds. Junior, pole vaulter, William Hankee placed third in the pole vault and had a mark of 3.90 meters. This meet wasn’t the most impressive for the Sharks but they certainly had some athletes just missing out on some big points. The girls team continued their impressive season as they placed second overall in the event scoring 88 points. Senior jumper, Adrienne Edwards placed second in the high jump and had a mark of 1.47 meters. Senior, Katie Kelly placed first in the pole vault and had a mark of 3.66 meters. Edwards also placed third in the long jump and had a mark of 5.04 meters. Edwards continued her dominance in the triple jump and had a mark of 10.52. Senior thrower, Elizabeth Nuhu placed third in the shot-put event and had a mark of 10.57 meters. The girls look to continue their dominance in their next event and the boys look to get back in track.
“As long as each person focuses on their individual event we can do well as a team in these meets.”

The next event for the Track and Field teams was the Creekside Friday Knight Invite. The boys team placed fourth and scored 73.5 points at the meet. Miller continued his success with the 110 meter hurdles placing first and running a time of 14.96 seconds. Miller also placed third in the 400 meter hurdles and running a time of 61.15 seconds. Senior jumper, Robert Merritt added to the team’s total in the long jump and had a mark of 6.10 meters. Junior thrower, Brody McLeod placed second in the shot-put event and had a mark of 15.15 meters. In the discus event junior thrower, Colin Butler placed third with a mark of 48.49 meters. Senior thrower and captain, James O’Donnell placed first in the javelin event and had a mark of 50.65 meters. The girls team had a down meet overall as they placed sixth overall and scored 56.5 points. Kelly was able to score some points for the team in the pole vault event as she placed second and had a mark of 3.50 meters. Edwards continued her success in the long jump as she placed first and had a mark of 5.07 meters. Nuhu also got in on the action as she placed second in the shot put and had a mark of 11.63 meters. Senior thrower, Drew Gardner scored some points as she placed second in the javelin and had a mark of 33.34 meters.
The Sharks showed glimpses of success but also have to improve in some categories. O’Donnell said, “As long as each person focuses on their individual event we can do well as a team in these meets.”
