PVHS Boys Golf Start Slow, Hoping to Bounce Back Strong

By: Cole Rosendahl

The Ponte Vedra High School (PVHS) Boys Golf team had their first match of the 2025-2026 golf season on Aug. 18. The team this year is led by their senior captains, Easton Oliva, who is committed to UNF for golf, and Cooper Franklin, who is committed to Mercer University for golf. The boys opened up their season at the Ponte Vedra Inn and Club’s Lagoon Course, which is a par 70 course. The team did not of their best outing on Monday, but they had a few flashes shown by younger classmen. Junior, James Nagle shot a 68 (-2) which led the Sharks in scoring, and sophomore, Maxwell Morgan shot a 69 (-1) following up Nagle. The two other scores taken for the Sharks’ total were senior, Danny Gimbel’s 72 (+2) and Cooper Franklin’s (+3). Gimbel after the match promptly stated, “We did not have our best stuff out on the course. Just some sloppy mistakes were made but it is alright; we’ll be back.” With their best four scores, the Sharks came in with a 282 (+2) total score, which came second, trailing to the Beachside Barracudas who shot a 280 (E). Although the Sharks came up short, their sights are set on a more prominent win; a state championship. A state championship win this year would be the Sharks’ tenth state championship in PV Boys Golf history; and for the team this year, it is well within reach.
