Sharks Girls Basketball Starts the Season Hot

By Brooklyn Brant

Ponte Vedra High School (PVHS) has started the basketball season off strong with wins against Orange Park High School (OPHS), Episcopal School (ESJ), and Lee County High School (LCHS). The team is looking forward to a good season and has demonstrated it so far.

On Nov. 18, PVHS defeated the OPHS Raiders with a score of 64-54. The win was a team effort, but sophomore Jocelyn Hoffman stood out. Hoffman had a 60% field goal percentage along with 21 points and four steals. Freshman, Audra Davis in her first regular season high school game posted 13 points and seven rebounds. Overall, the team worked together for a win.

“We had a strong 3-0 start, and I am confident in our team to have a great season.”

On Nov. 21, The Sharks had a clear victory over Episcopal with a score of 61-37. PVHS’ success came from a balanced attack that saw several players step up. Davis led the charge by shooting 73% on her way to 19 points and three blocks. Sophomore, Julia Conroy was another key player, shooting five for nine to score 11 points in addition to eight assists. As a team, the girls racked up a total of 16 assists in comparison to ESJ’s eight.

On Nov. 24, PVHS kept their streak going with a third win against LCHS. They dominated by a score of 53-32. Hoffman once again showed up and showed out with 28 points and ten steals. She could not have done this without the help of Conroy and her seven assists. Hoffman said, “We had a strong 3-0 start, and I am confident in our team to have a great season.” The Sharks have averaged 59 points per game this season so far and hope to continue their season just as strong.
