The newly added fence to Ponte Vedra High School’s track has sparked some discussion among students and alumni. The newly added fence that goes along with the various other renovations and constructions around the school, such as the extended pavilion around the bus loop, the added AstroTurf around the courtyard, the addition of a new classroom pod, and various paintjobs around the school.
Dr. Oberkehr, PVHS Principal, states, “I hope that all can understand that the fencing is to protect our new track from a variety of incidentals.” With the addition of the fence, however, a new idea has been proposed to have seniors leave their mark on the school in a fun and creative way. The idea stems from PVHS Senior and Vice President of the clubs Shoeboxes of Love, Bobby Moore.
Shoe Boxes of Love is a part of the Jacksonville City Rescue Movement (CRM) that helps the Jacksonville homeless have supplies and resources during their times of need. The main incentive is making shoe boxes filled with items like blankets, toothbrushes, toiletries, etc. for Jacksonville’s homeless.
“As an idea for a fundraiser we would sell locks and engrave people’s names on them with their graduation year and lock it on the fence, all the profits would go towards the city rescue mission.”, States Moore. The proposed locks could also be sold in the Shark Shack, fueling more student-based interaction the Shark Shack hopes to achieve.

The addition of locks on the fence is a fun proposal and a nice reminder of alumni of the school without seeming too overbearing. Currently, seniors have few notable ways to leave their mark on the school. Although some seniors may not see a point to be known at their previous high school, the sentiment of the idea comes off as fun and a small token of sentimental value that, as of writing, the proposal has been approved by Dr. Oberkehr and is awaiting production later this year, as administration believes it’s a fun idea. The fence will soon be filled with alumni memories.
