By Dylan McAdoo

On Aug. 30, the Ponte Vedra Sharks faced off against the Bartram Trail Bears. The matchup between the Bears and the Sharks have only fallen in the Sharks favor twice since they became a program in 2008. The Sharks started off the game rolling by scoring the first touchdown of the game when senior running back, Brian Case ran the ball in. Making the score 7-0. The sharks defense came up with some big stops holding the Bartram Trail offense to 0 in the first quarter. Meanwhile junior fullback, JP Dolan punched in for a score on a one-yard rushing touchdown making the score 14-0 going into the second quarter. The Bear’s offense got off good to start to begin the second quarter, scoring back to back touchdowns on back to back drives making the score 14-14 with 5 minutes left in the second quarter. Both defenses made stops giving the Bears the ball with a little over a minute to go. Bartram Trail was driving down the field until senior defensive end, Ryker Kemp comes up big with a strip sack to end the half.

“This was a huge momentum win, we got back on track and now it’s time to focus on the next.”

Camden tietze (10)

The Sharks offense scored first in the second half, when senior quarterback, Drew Price threw a touchdown pass to sophomore wide receiver, Camden Tietze making the score 21-14. Both defenses held up for the rest of the third quarter, but the sharks first drive of the fourth quarter ended up in a passing touchdown by Price to Case. The bears scored a touchdown with around five minutes in the fourth quarter, stopped the Sharks offense and got the ball back with two minutes to go. The bears started to drive down the field and was just outside of the RedZone when they took their last shot at the end zone but it fell incomplete. The Sharks won 28-21 just their third time since 2008. Tietze said, “this was a huge momentum win, we got back on track and now it’s time to focus on the next.”
