Sharks Girls Soccer Continues Strong Start

   The Ponte Vedra Sharks Girls Soccer team is coming off a win against the Stanton High School Blue Devils. On Thursday Nov. 14 the Sharks took on the Niceville High School Eagles at a Neutral site. The Sharks started off strong by scoring early on in the first half with a goal by junior midfielder Quinlee Irwin on the assist from junior forward Lily Morse. Making the score 1-0 in favor of the Sharks. The Eagles answered back evening the score at one a piece. Then to close out the first half the Sharks added another goal by junior forward Izzy Whitaker on the assist for sophomore forward Katie DeVincentis, giving the Sharks the lead back at 2-1. After halftime the Sharks scored again with a goal from DeVincentis on the assist from Morse, increasing their lead to 3-1. The Eagles inched closer by adding a score making the score 3-2. Towards the end of the game the Morse added another goal on the assist from junior midfielder Lila Jones. The final score of the game came in the Sharks favor by a score of 4-2. This win increased the Sharks record to 2-0 on the season. This win was a huge win for the Sharks as they get a commanding win over a really good team and look to use it as fuel for the rest of the season.

   On Saturday Nov. 16 the Sharks traveled to Lake Mary to take on the Lake Mary High School Rams who had a record of 2-2 coming into the game. It was a very defensive first half but that all changed when DeVincentis scored a goal for the Sharks on the assist from senior defender Natalie McCann making the score 1-0 in the Sharks favor. That was all for the first half. The second half was also a very defensive battle until the Rams scored a goal to tie up the score at 1-1. The Shark sophomore goalie had an outstanding game racking up eight saves. Neither team could add another goal leaving the final score in a tie at 1-1. This tie brought the Sharks record to 2-0-1 on the season.

   The Sharks next match came on Monday Nov. 18 as they traveled to Bishop Kenny High School to take one the Crusaders. The Sharks came out of the gate hot in the first half opening up the scoring with a goal from Morse on the assist from junior forward Taylor McKeon. Making the score 1-0 in favor of the Sharks. The added two more goals in the first half, one by Whitaker and the other by DeVincentis. Increasing the score to 3-0 to close out the half. In the second half the Sharks didn’t slow down, as both Morse and Whitaker socred their second goals of the game. Making the Score 5-0. The Crusaders and the Sharks Split goal towards the end of the second half, that goal being by Jones. The Final Score came to 6-1 in favor of the Sharks increasing their record to 3-0-1 on the year. DeVincentis said, “I’m really confident in my team’s performance. We’ve been working hard all season, building our chemistry and sharpening our skills.”

   The Sharks look to continue their hot start against St. Johns Country Day at home on Friday Nov. 22.
