New movies coming this year

By Rory Mayer

The year 2020 was an exceedingly challenging time for the entire world where anything considered normal and routine was stripped away. The Covid-19 pandemic effected the entire world in a multitude of ways including economically, physical health, mental health and countless more ways. With the new year the world can feel optimistic with the success of clinical trials of vaccines and hope for some normality to return, and that includes Hollywood and movies. The release of several blockbusters has been pushed back to this year and on top of the films that were already scheduled to release, one can expect a big year for movies in 2021.

Blockbusters are not only hitting the theaters this year but also are coming directly into your home via streaming services. This could drastically affect the movie watching experience as we know it. The most anticipated movies of this year are a mixed bag of both first appearing on streaming services and the traditional way of appearing in theaters first. This year is certainly a big year for Marvel fans as many comic book movies will make an appearance on the silver screen, but the most anticipated for this year is Spider-Man 3. There are tons of rumors flying around as multiple actors who have played Spider-Man in the past are thought to be coming back such as: Andrew Garfield, Toby Maguire, and possibly the first live action interpretation of Miles Morales. The movie is set to release in theaters and a TBD date sometime in 2021. “Judas and the Black Messiah” starring Daniel Kaluuya and Lakeith Stanfield is period piece that focuses on the Black Panther movement during the 1960s in Illinois. The movie is about an FBI informant trying to disrupt the Black Panther’s efforts for the Civil Right Movement. No Time to Die is the newest in the long line of the James Bond films. Daniel Craig will return for his fifth Bond film and he said it would be his last. Expectations for this movie are extremely high as Daniel Craig is considered one of the greatest in Bond film history.

Coming 2 America' Cast Ranked By Net Worth

With terrific movies coming out on the big screen the bar is set high for the movies appearing on a streaming service first. An 80s classical gets a much needed and anticipated sequel in “Coming 2 America” along with the original cast returning. The goofy cast of Eddie Murphy and company are set to be seen on the Amazon Prime steaming service March 5 for the release. The audience should expect a lot of laughs from this upcoming film as they return to New York find the long-lost son of the price (Eddie Murphy’s character). HBO is continuing the theme of revamping older films or tv shows into modern films. “The Many Saints of Newark” will serve as a prequel to the beloved hit tv series of the Sopranos. The Many Saints of Newark gives insight into the early days of the legendary Tony Soprano and the 1967 race riots between Italian Americans and African American. The Gandolfini legacy will continue with the son of the late James Gandolfini in Michael Gandolfini picking up where his father left off. The film is set to release in September.
