Boys Soccer Ends Season Strong

By Johnny Inama

The Ponte Vedra High School boys soccer team has reached the end of the regular season, and they faced Saint Augustine High School on Jan. 13, who came in with a rough record of 2-7-4. The Sharks played a decent game, and despite the large record difference between the two squads, the yellow jackets kept it close with a final score of 2-1 Ponte Vedra, with goals scored by both senior captains and midfielders, Mark Romano and Andres Villasana. On Jan. 17, the Sharks faced one of their hardest opponents of the season, Bartram Trail High School, who came in with a record of 8-2-1. The Sharks struggled to keep up with the Bears, and the Sharks lost their second game of the season after going 10 games straight without a loss. “We found this isn’t gonna be an easy road through the playoffs and we’re gonna have to work harder than ever to advance,” said junior left wing, Bobby Hitchcock, after the loss. This loss left the Sharks with a record of 9-2-3 on the season, and just one game remained before the end of the regular season. They played this final game on Jan. 20 against Fletcher High School, who came in with a 1-13-1 record. This seemed to be one of their easiest games of the year, and they cruised by Fletcher with a score of 5-0, with a hat trick from Mark Romano to end off the regular season on the right foot. The Sharks will now head to the playoffs and they are hungry for a state title.
