If PVHS Students Could Travel Time

By Elijah Maule

Understanding History is tantamount to understanding today’s world. History echoes throughout the years, such as the Ukrainian War of Independence in 1917 and the Russia-Ukrainian war that began in 2014.  It also helps us understand where humanity came from and how humanity got to where it is now. History teaches people about past mistakes and achievements so they can make better choices in the future. But what if people could go back and see the past to see what happened? Where would they go and what time period would they go back to? These questions were asked to several students at Ponte Vedra High School and the periods they wanted to go back to were very diverse.

Senior, Kale Hutcherson, said “I would probably want to go back to ancient Greece or the peak of Rome.” He stated that he would go back solely for the culture and that he thinks it would be cool to live in and see the cities when they were first built. Kale was not the only person who wanted to go back to the Greeks and Romans, as several other students wanted to as well.

Two other PVHS students said that they wanted to go back to the 80’s. One of them was a junior, Hugh Williams, stated that he would go back to the 80’s as, “it was a fun period of time and seemed like everyone enjoyed life.” The other student was senior, Antonia Perez, who said she would go back because, “I like the music and the fact that life wasn’t tied to technology.”

Several other PVHS Students also mentioned going back to the 70’s as they liked the vibe and music that came from it. Others said World War II, as it was an important time that impacted the world in the approach leading to the Cold War. Some PVHS students also stated that they would love to see the pyramids of Egypt being built as there are several questions surrounding the creation of them. Senior, Daniel Schoenly said, “I would love to go back to the early 2000’s to relive my childhood,” and a few other students said the same. Some PVHS students who like sports said that they would love to go back to when their favorite sports team won a championship. For example, junior, James Fletcher said he would go back to 1966 because that’s the only time England has ever won a world cup in soccer.

A few PVHS students couldn’t decide on what time period they wanted to go back to because there are just so many options to pick one, as the past is filled with many events that sparked innovation and pushed society forward. None the less, PVHS students are inspired by historical events that pushed humanity into what it is today.
