The Sharks Attack FSU Pre-States

By Vincent Jackson

On Sep. 29, the Ponte Vedra High School cross country team traveled to Tallahassee, Florida, for the annual FSU Pre-State meet, one of the deepest meets of the year as the fastest athletes in Florida all compete.

The PVHS girls kicked off the meet well for the Sharks, as PVHS’s top three made an early charge to get out with the lead runners and started hammering away on this brutal course. Seniors, Lindy White and Hilaree Vega along with junior, Daisy Ross finished in the top three, placing 7th, 10th and 12th overall in a 280 runner field. Rounding out the top five for the Sharks was sophomore, Ella McGowan and junior, Sofia Bushkell. These top five led PVHS to a close second place finish out of 30 teams.

“I gave myself a solid pace to go after and I just never looked back.”

On the boys side of the race, junior, Tanner Andrade-Brinsko led the team in a solid meet, placing 33rd overall with a blistering time of 16:05.8, “I gave myself a solid pace to go after and I just never looked back,” Brinsko said about this impressive showing. Senior, Davis Brown and freshman, Luke Ross followed close behind, finishing in 16:17.8 and 16:18.5. Closing out the top five for the guys was sophomore, Miles Wicks and senior, Colby Green. The boys team put up one of the best averages for a top five in school history and will be looking to exceed this success as the team gears up to go into the postseason.      The next meet for the PVHS Sharks will be back at Cecil Field for the annual New World Fall Spectacular.
