How to Document Work Hours

By Ryder Navarra

In the Beginning of the 2022-2023 school year, the registration of work hours for the Florida scholarship program Bright Futures was approved for the use of the minimum 100 –hour service requirement. Although this change is frequently noted as a positive and needed change among the student body, many do not understand how to register the work hours to be eligible for the bright futures program. Below is a step-by-step guide on how to register work hours for Bright Futures.

1.) Pick Up a Bright Future log/ Reflection form from the Deans Reception office and fill it out – On the wall of the Dean’s Reception office, there is a form that is used to log many hours of work you have done, and what kind of work you have done. It is important to understand that the community service form and the work hours for are the same, and because of this some of the terminology used may not be applicable for work hours. Because of this, fill out the form as best as you can, with how many hours you have worked over a period.

2.) Gather Paystubs correlating to Documented Hours – This step can be the most tedious, but bear with it. Next, gather pay stubs via your paycheck, or app that your work pays you from.

  • ‘What is a paystub and why do they need mine?’

A paystub is different from a paycheck, as it shows how many hours you’ve worked, and basic information about your place of work. A paystub is used to verify that you not only have a job, but also to check that the hours you filled out on the work hours form are truthful.

  • ‘Where do I get my paystubs?’

There are two different ways you can find your paystubs. If you get a paper paycheck, there should be a physical paper in the envelope next to the check, and that is the paystub. If you don’t have a paystub in the envelope next to your check, talk to a management person, as they should have it somewhere in their system. If you have a direct deposit, it is a little more tedious to get your paystub. First, check which site your place of employment uses to give you money. The most common website is ADP, but some companies may store pay information on their employee website. For ADP, go through the ‘check’ icon and click to what pay period you want to use for a paystub. Then click on that pay week and click “more info.” It will then show you the paystub, from which you can then download and print. Other websites have the same way of doing it, so the process may vary.  After you have the paystubs, print them out and staple them to the work hours form.

3.) Have a manager sign off on the sheet and paystubs – After you have all your paystubs and the form together, have your manager or person of employment sign the boxes on the form, as well as the paystubs.

4.) Turn in the form to Deans reception office – Then check HAC in the coming days to ensure the hours have been properly logged, and you’re done!
