The Ponte Vedra High School Sharks took on the Beachside High School Barracudas in the first round of the FSHAA 5A state playoffs. The Barracudas went up early 7-0, but it didn’t take long for the Sharks to respond back as senior quarterback, Drew Price found the hands of junior wide receiver, Davitt Doherty to make the score 7-7. The Barracudas scored late in the first quarter making the score 14-7. Price found the hands of junior wide receiver, Jack Berquist to start the second quarter to tie up the game at 14. The Sharks defense played well the rest of the second quarter as they held them to no points in the second quarter. Sophomore place kicker, Noah Ash drilled a field goal to end the first half to make the score 17-14.
To start the third quarter Price found Doherty for the second time putting the Sharks up by ten, making the score 24-14. That was all the scoring the Barracudas would get for the game as the Sharks defense shut them down the rest of the game. The Sharks advance to take on the Niceville High School Eagles in round 2 of the playoffs. Tietze said “we are back to 0-0, we have to win each game at a time and not worry about the others.”
