Girls Tennis Update

By Nina Lueck

The Ponte Vedra High Schools girls tennis team had successful week with two wins and one loss. Last week they played three matches against Bolles, Tocoi Creek and Spruce Creek, with wins over all but Bolles. The girls beat Tocoi Creek on their senior night 7-0, with all players winning their games. In their match against Spruce Creek, they won 4-3 in a hard fought battle, with lines three, four, and five winning singles, as well as line two winning doubles. The standout player of the night was sophomore, Kayla McLaughlin, who won two tiebreakers.

As the girls head into their championship season, senior and co-captain Kathleen Hawkins says, “Heading into districts and regionals, we are focusing on singles play the most, as well as our strategies and ball placement. We are seeded number one in all of our lines and hope to really show up and play well.”

The Sharks will compete in the District Final at home on Tuesday and Wednesday.
