The Ponte Vedra High School Sharks Girls Soccer team is coming off a monumental win against Bishop Kenney and they looked to continue their momentum when they took on the St. Johns Country Day Spartans. In the first half of the game against both the Sharks and the Spartans were at a standstill, neither team breaking the 0-0 tie, sophomore goalie Abby Kennedy’s outstanding play held the Spartans to no score. At the half the score was still tied but the Sharks were determined to change that in the second half. The Sharks came out swinging in the second half with a huge goal from junior forward Lily Morse on the assist from senior forward Jenny Dearie, putting the Sharks out in front 1-0. The Sharks did not slow down after their first goal adding another goal from junior forward Izzy Whitaker on the assist from senior midfielder Abby Wooten, taking a commanding 2-0 lead. The Sharks offense continued to blast the Spartans defense adding two more goals from senior midfielder Quinlee Irwin and junior forward Annabelle Guirato on the assists from Dearie and freshman midfielder Chloe Chandler. That was it for the game as the Sharks dominated the Spartans in a final score of 4-0. Kennedy finished her outstanding night with zero goal allowed and seven saves. This huge win kept the sharks undefeated and improved their record to 4-0-1.
The Sharks looked to start a win streak as they took on the Toccoi Creek High School Toros at home and stay undefeated on the season. The Sharks came out of the gate hot opening up the scoring with an amazing goal from Morse on the assist from Whitaker, giving the Sharks a 1-0 lead. This goal was massive for the Sharks as it took out the hopes for the Toros to pull off an upset. The Sharks defense dominated in the first half as they have been all season long, with the score being 1-0 at half. The Sharks did not back down after the half with Morse adding her second goal of the game and Whitaker having her second assist. Morse wasn’t finished after her second goal though as she added her third goal of the game giving her a hattrick with senior defender Natalie McCann on the assist. Kennedy had another fantastic game in goal as she racked up seven saves. This win started up a win streak for the Sharks as they’ve now won three straight games and improved their record to 5-0-1.
The Sharks came into this highly anticipated matchup against Chiles High School Timberwolves who is ranked 51st in the nation with the Sharks ranked 7th. The Sharks took the long road chip to Tallahassee to take on the Timberwolves and that long drive showed as the Sharks had a slow start. But that slow start didn’t last long as Whitaker opened up the scoring in the first half to give the Sharks the lead on the assist from Morse, as the first half came to an end with a 1-0 score in favor of the Sharks. The Sharks looked to put away the Timberwolves in the second half and they certainly did that when junior forward Lila Jones scored an unassisted goal to take a commanding 2-0 lead. The Sharks added another goal to put down the Timberwolves from freshman midfielder Charlotte Martin and take the win by a score of 3-0. This win increased their win streak four and give them a 6-0-1 record on the season.
Wooten says that head coach Dave Silverberg, “Motivates us to beat down on every team and keeps us together as one team. This has been a major success to us this season and will benefit us as our season moves on.” The Sharks look to continue their win streak at home against the Bishop Moore Hornets on Monday Dec 9.
