Boys and Girls Track and Field is Officially Underway

   The PVHS Boys and Girls track and field teams started of their season at the 21st Annual East Coast Classic at Flagler Palm Coast High School. The boys team placed fifth and scored 61 team points in the event. Senior hurdler, Ben Miller had an outstanding performance in the 110 meter Hurdles running it 14.96 seconds and placing second in the event. Miller also placed second in the 400 meter hurdles running in in 60.60 seconds. Junior pole vaulter, William Hankee placed first in the pole vault with a mark of 3.75 meters. Junior thrower, Colin Butler also added to the Sharks total, placing third in the discus event with a mark of 43.75 meters. Another outstanding performer was senior distance runner, Tanner Andrade Brinsko, who placed third in the 1600 meters with a time of 4 minutes and 23.21 seconds. The girls team placed fourth in the meet and scored 66 team points. The Sharks had a great performance in the 4 X 800-meter relay where they placed third and ran a time of 10 minutes and 35.65 seconds. Senior pole vaulter, Katie Kelly placed third in the pole vault event and had a mark of 3.30 meters. Junior jumper, Adrienne Edwards placed first in the long jump and had a mark of 5.07 meters. Lastly, senior thrower, Drew Gardner added to the teams total as she got first in the Javelin and had a mark of 32.70 meters. Overall, both the boys and girls teams had some great performances but also look to improve as their season is officially underway.

   Both teams participated in the sole home meet, the 11th Annual Craig Speziale memorial Track & Field Invite. The boys team placed second in the meet and accumulated 92.5 team points. A great outing from junior runner, Dean Chigounis, in the 400 meter as he placed third and ran a time of 51.41 seconds. Andrade Brinsko placed first in the 800 meter event and ran a time of 1 minute and 56.24 seconds. Junior distance runner, Miles Wicks also added to the teams score when he placed first in the 1600 meter event with a time of 4 minutes and 20.57 seconds. Miller continued his success early in the season when he placed second in the 110 meter hurdles and ran a time 15.18 seconds. Miller was able to place third in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 60.66 seconds. Senior jumper, Robbie Merritt was outstanding in the triple jump as he placed second and had a mark of 12.39 meters. Adding to the Sharks score was junior thrower, Brody McLeod as he placed third in the shot put with a mark of 15.05 meters. Butler was also great in the discus as he placed third and had a mark of 43.98 meters. The girls team also placed second in the meet and score 104.25 team points. Senior distance runner, Daisy Ross got the party started for the girls track team as she placed second in 800 meter race and ran a time of 2 minutes and 19 seconds. Ross also added to the team total I the 1600 meter race as she placed first with a time of 5 minutes and 8.32 seconds. The girls 4 X 800 meter relay team placed second and ran a rime of 10 minutes and 1 second which added 8 point to the team total. Kelly was fantastic again in the pole vault as she placed first and had a mark of 3.65 meters. Edwards was able to add to the team’s total in the long jump as she placed second and had a mark of 5.41 meters.

   Senior hurdler and captain Ben Miller said, “The first two meets were a great start and if we each carry our own weight we will bring home some victories.” Both teams look to continue their success in their upcoming meets.
