The Busy Life of Cailyn Douglas

By Soleil Shah

Waking up at 5 am is no big deal for sophomore Cailyn Douglas. Part of Ponte Vedra High School’s (PVHS) Track and Cross-Country teams, Douglas takes pride running seven days a week. She joined her freshman year not having substantial prior running training but quickly fell in love with the “runners high.” Though training can be demanding, running is one of her biggest passions, especially since she runs alongside an inspiring and motivational team. “It’s really fun to run with everybody,” Douglas said. And beyond the group of girls, Douglas commented that track and cross country improved her, “leadership skills and perseverance.” Douglas enjoys running the 1,600, which is a one-mile run. She claims that even though running feels exhausting in the moment, the feeling when she crosses the finish line makes all her workouts and training worthwhile.

“Art History is really interesting; I really liked learning about the ancient Greek art pieces.”

When she’s not running, Douglas is keeping up with her rigorous schoolwork where she takes a full schedule with multiple AP classes. Her favorite class is Art History which is taught but Ms. Collazo. “Art History is really interesting; I really liked learning about the ancient Greek art pieces,” Douglas said. Art has always been one of Douglas’ interests which is why she took pottery her freshman year. Though she did not continue pottery sophomore year, Douglas enjoys drawing in her spare time. Outside of school, she also enjoys reading and journaling.

Douglas moved from Illinois to Florida when she was eight years old. She said that compared to living near the city, its “a lot more relaxed here (in Ponte Vedra)” and the people in this community are very friendly. Douglas plans to stay on the East Coast when she applies for college in a few years. Her dream is to go to college in a scenic area like the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
