The Ponte Vedra High School (PVHS) Sharks boys soccer team has begun another season. The Sharks are coming off 6-8-3 record with a loss in the district finals to rival Nease High School. The Sharks lost several key players last year but senior, Thomas Arndt, the leading scorer from last year, is returning as well as senior right wing, Noah Theisen.
The Sharks began their season by traveling to Providence High School to play the Stallions on Nov. 5. The game begun with a slow start until junior Nick Churchill assisted senior Stanley Bishop to start the game of early. Then, the Stallions scored off a corner kick to tie the score 1-1. “The first half was a bit of a struggle as our chemistry was not there but we came out stronger in the second half, turning the game around with better teamwork and intensity,” said Arndt. But a few minutes later, Arndt scored to bring the score to 2-1 in favor of the Sharks. Shortly after, Churchill scored to bring to score to stretch the lead to 3-1 entering halftime. To start the second half, the Sharks moved the ball down immediately and Arndt scored again making the score 4-1. Ardnt stated, “I worked with my team and finished the job with a hat trick, but it was a team effort all the way.” Arndt, once again, scored another goal securing three goals making it a hat trick. Shortly after, Theisen was dribbling down the sidelines and was fouled and rewarded a free kick. Theisen took the free kick and nailed the shot in the goal to bring the final score to 6-1 with the sharks winning in dominate fashion.
The Sharks will now face Creekside High School at home on Nov.12 in their first home game of the season. The Sharks played an aggressive game against a great Providence team to start the season off 1-0.
