By Johnny Inama

The Ponte Vedra High School boys soccer team were off to a solid 2-1 start to the season as they had another away game against Tocoi Creek High School. They started off nice with the opening goal from junior right wing, Cooper Gottfried to pull out to an early lead. They approached halftime with a score of 2-0, and they came out of half even better. They went on to score an astounding four goals in the second half, with two goals from junior left wing, Bobby Hitchcock, and they won the game by a large margin of 6-0 to be left with a record of 3-1 on the season.

Two days later on Dec. 1, the Sharks against the 4-1 Englewood High School. The game was expected to be high scoring, as the Sharks were averaging three goals per game, and Englewood was averaging four. However, the game was a defensive battle as the game was still tied at 0-0 going into half. The Sharks finally capitalized in the second half as junior left wing, Bobby Hitchcock tapped in the only goal that would be scored the entire game. “The Mandarin loss really made us come together and gave us insight on what we needed to improve on as a team. When game time finally rolled around we were locked in and ready to prove ourselves” said Hitchcock when asked what improvements were made following their first loss. The Sharks will go on to face their biggest rival, Nease on Dec. 7.
