Another Postseason Win for the Sharks

By Brooklyn Brant

On Oct. 22, Ponte Vedra High School (PVHS) won their second postseason game against Fleming Island High School (FIHS). The Sharks had a dominant game by winning all three sets with scores of 25-12, 25-22, and 25-18. Many of PVHS’ players commented on how excited they were to play this game as they lost their last matchup with FIHS. Hopefully, the win will fuel the Sharks through the postseason.

“We brought a lot of energy. We did not let up and came out with the win.”

While the game was a shutout, in the second set the Eagles fought back, and it came down to the wire. The Golden Eagle defense stepped up with 44 digs and fought hard to score crucial points. Despite this, the Sharks pulled through in the third set with freshman, Edie Joseph and junior, Lily Keeley leading the team on offense. Joseph controlled the service line with four aces. Alongside her, Keeley picked up 13 kills. As usual, senior, Haydin Froelich led the team in assists with 39.

This win bumps PVHS’ record up to 15-12 and allows them to continue in the postseason with spirits high. The player of the game, Joseph says, “We brought a lot of energy. We did not let up and came out with the win.”  As for FIHS, their record becomes 19-8 and as of right now there are no upcoming games. The Sharks will travel to take on Chiles High School over the weekend.
