On Nov. 16, the Ponte Vedra High School (PVHS) Sharks competed in the FHSAA Class 3A swim state championships. The girls’ teams were crowned champions, continuing their historic five-year win streak. The boys’ team finished in sixth place. The girls’ team win was led by state champions sophomore, Juju Cavalcanti with a team record in the 200 IM, and another team record in the Medley Relay with seniors, Kate Pelot, Sophie Fox, and Sydney Player, and junior, Mady Tulloch. After the race, senior state champion Sophie Fox stated, “honestly we couldn’t have won states if it wasn’t for the people that stepped up and made finals when they weren’t originally seeded to.” While the boys’ team finished sixth, they had team records with junior, Thomas Smith swimming a team record in the 100m Butterfly, junior, Chase Kendall in the 500m Freestyle, and two relay team records in the 400m Freestyle and the 200m Freestyle. The Sharks ended the season with dominance as the girls completed the five-peat, and the boys finished very well in such a competitive field.
