Austrailia’s dilemma

Since Nov. 11, 2019, Australia’s wild animals and human lives have been at risk of death due to the hulking flames expanding throughout the country. The fire started because of multiple reasons. The main ones are believed to be due to lightning strikes, climate change, human actions such as arson, and Australia is going through its hottest and driest year ever recorded. According to Vox Media, “As fires continue to rip through Australia, some devastating numbers are emerging: At least 24 people killed. Over 1,400 homes destroyed. More than 15.6 million acres torched. That’s approximately the size of West Virginia. And, according to Vox Media, “expert’s count, an estimated 1 billion animals killed.” While the fires are not slowing down, they have destroyed billions of animal homes and are close to making most of Australia’s unique species extinct. Not only are the fires affecting the lives of all the animals, but the flames are threatening human lives as-well. 24 people have already died and there are some unknown cases. The flames have also destroyed over 2,000 homes and scorched over 15 million acres of land. More than 100 million dollars, and counting, has been raised to stop the fires but they are so intense that firefighters are struggling to put it all out.
