Boys Soccer Update

By Johnny Inama

The Ponte Vedra High School boys soccer team started off the regular season 1-0, and on Nov. 15, they faced an 0-1 Pedro Menendez for their first away game of the season. The boys started off the game hot with two goals in the first half, with a score from senior captain and attacking midfielder, Mark Romano in the eleventh minute, followed by a score from junior left wing, Bobby Hitchcock in the twenty-fourth minute. Just fourteen minutes later, Mark Romano scored yet again to make it a 3-0 game going into the half. The Sharks played good defense in the second half of play, shutting out Pedro Menendez for a 3-0 win.

Two days later on Nov. 17, the Sharks faced a 1-0 Mandarin team as the Sharks looked for a 3-0 start. However, the Sharks did not seem fully prepared for the mustangs as Mandarin was able to control possession for the majority of the game, and gained possession on the Sharks half multiple times. “ We had chances to score, we just didn’t capitalize,” said senior outside back Matthew McConn when asked about what the loss came down to. The Sharks ultimately lost the game with a score of 0-3, and suffered their first loss on the season. The Sharks will go on to face a 1-1 Tocoi Creek team, as they look to improve their record to 3-1.
