Ponte Vedra girl’s basketball has been on a up and down stretch these last couple weeks. They had a great nine-point win against St. Augustine. Junior Morgan Gavazzi had an incredible game scoring 23 points while still shooting an impressive 50 percent from the field. Junior Kennedy Rosendahl also added 15 points to the mix.
After this great win the Sharks had a disappointing one-point loss to Bartram Trail. Rosendahl led the team with 16 points and Junior Maya Richards added 11 rebounds. The following game the Sharks lost another nail-biter losing to Oakleaf by four. Gavazzi was once again the leading scorer with 17 followed up by Rosendahl’s 16 points. It was a close game points wise, but where the Sharks really lost was the turnover totals. The Sharks turned the ball over 28 times compared to Oakleaf’s 18 turnovers. Richards had a solid game with another double-double grabbing 12 boards and scoring 16 points.
After the devastating loss they followed it up with a blowout win against the Golden Eagles 45-24. Gavazzi had 14 points leading the Sharks to a win.
The Sharks had a great win against the Providence Stallions winning 50-35. Richards led the Sharks with 16 points and 13 rebounds adding another double-double to her resume.
This past week however, The Lady Sharks season has come to end after losing to Crestview in the regional quarterfinals.
Before they lost to Crestview their season seemed to be leading in a promising way with the Sharks going on a six-game win streak going nearly a month without a loss. The Sharks breezed by most of these teams during this win streak they had two tough matchups during their month of success and one of them was against a good Spruce Creek. Junior Kennedy Rosendahl lead the team to a win with 14 points followed by junior Morgan Gavazzi with 13 they both shot a solid 40 percent from three.
The lady Sharks got their revenge in the playoffs against the Nease Panthers. The Panthers ended the Sharks season short last year and defeated the Sharks earlier in the season but the Sharks got their revenge. Gavazzi lead the way with 14 points followed by Rosendahl with 8 and junior Maya Richards also added 8 boards.
The Sharks took a big loss ending their win streak. They lost to Oakleaf 56-21 Richards was the only played in double figures and the Knights were able to shut down the sharks leading scorers.
The season came to an end after the Sharks fell short to Crestview. They didn’t play up to their potential and not one played scored double digits. The sharks have a lot of hope heading into next season they are only losing one senior and have a promising future in girls high school basketball.
