SADD Club at PVHS Runs a Fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Hospital

Ponte Vedra High School students believe that while it is always nice to be able to help a good cause, its better to do in a fun fashion. Jack Brady, a junior at PVHS, the leader of the club SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) at PVHS thought of a very unique fundraiser. Brady created a flag football tournament to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. It was a ten-dollar entry fee per person with 16 teams of six. Brady estimated that he raised around 1,200 dollars. Brady said, “I never thought it was going to get as big as it did, I maybe expected six teams and we could raise maybe a couple hundred dollars for St. Jude’s.” This event was a very beneficial and well run. Brady said that he wants this to be an annual event and sees if it can get even bigger each year.

“I never thought it was going to get as big as it did, I maybe expected six teams and we could raise maybe a couple hundred dollars for St. Jude’s.”

After hearing the story about Mr. Hillier’s niece who is suffering from cancer and doing treatments at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Brady decided to do this Fundraiser. Brady said, “hearing about Mr. Hillier’s niece made me realize how tough it can be for kids in that type of situation.” Brady also added “I knew that it was hard to directly help but I wanted to do something, so I figured that having people go out would show our support for them.” Brady later said he was happy that there were so many people willing to help for this cause, stating that it brought him joy. Roshan Patel, a junior at PVHS, said, “the event was really well run, and it put a perfect spin on a fundraiser to make it not boring and just asking for money event.” Robbie Grieco, a junior at PVHS, said, “I knew my team wasn’t going to be the best but I liked how jack made the fundraiser fun and competitive while still helping out for a good cause.” Many students reported liking how the event was run and how it was fun but helping out people in need.
