The Ponte Vedra High School (PVHS) girls weightlifting team has had a successful yet challenging 23-24 season so far. Senior, Emily Glod and captain of the varsity girls weightlifting team is a third-year member of the team at PVHS. Emily spoke on Coach Karen Keller- Hughes a third-year coach for the girls saying “Our team is really blessed to have Coach Hughes leading us for a third season.” Emily made sure to shed light on her teammates and how their main focus this season is to bring back the family feel of the team. “This year we have really focused on bringing back the family aspect back to our team, which certainly shows with the amount of energy we bring to our meets.” The girls continue to show immense amounts of support for each other at every chance they get.
The girls always uplift and push each other to do their best as they feel it brings the team closer together. Emily talked about her teammates and how they have shaped her to be the captain she is for the team. “I am so lucky to be competing alongside such hardworking individuals who I am lucky to call my best friends.” Emily has had so many accomplishments and reached so many goals competing throughout the years. She has been super successful in the 139-pound weight class this season and hopes to up her lifting weight. “It has been one of my greatest honors to captain with this incredible team, and I am really looking forward to seeing how far we can get with districts, regionals, and states coming up.” As the season progresses, there are so many things to look forward to. It is inspiring to see the amount of hard work these girls put in. Seasons are full of intense workouts, competitions, and many accomplishments and goals fulfilled. Emily is feeling positive with the way the season is going for the team and is hopeful the 23-24 season will continue to be successful.
