Sharks Conclude the Regular Season With a Bang

By Sasha Crowe

The Ponte Vedra High School (PVHS) girls soccer team continues to dominate their regular season and senior night. As of Thursday, Jan. 11, the Sharks are ranked second in Florida and fourth nationally, with a record of 14-1-1. In their most recent matches, the ladies defeated Bartram Trail High School (BTHS) and Seabreeze High School.

On Dec. 19, the Sharks bested the rival Bears. Last year, the BTHS girls soccer team defeated the Sharks 1-0. Out for revenge, the lady Sharks were victorious with a hard-fought score of 1-0, scored by junior, Jenny Dearie. “In my four years on the PVHS girls soccer team, we have never beaten Bartram until now. The feeling was incredible,” stated senior, Julia Gregory.

On Jan. 11, PVHS hosted their senior night match against Seabreeze High School. The Sharks bested the Sandcrabs” with a score of 6-2. Nine seniors were celebrated, all of whom contribute greatly to the team. “Senior night was bittersweet, this is my last season playing soccer, and it’s ending. I’m so thankful to be ending it off with the best team,” said Gregory. Gregory is a leader on the team positioned at starting midfielder.

As the Sharks are near postseason, their minds are pinpointed on what lies ahead. “Our end goal for the season is to win the state championship. To get there I need to be patient and motivate all my teammates. As a team, we must stay focused and not get ahead of ourselves; we have to take one game at a time,” described senior Hadley Conway. Conway is a crucial defender who has been on the team for four years. On Thursday, Jan. 18, PVHS once again faces BTHS and on Saturday, Jan. 20, the Sharks go up against Monteverde Academy to finish off the regular season.
