The Ponte Vedra High School girls varsity tennis team had their first home match Thursday, Feb 15. against Camden County High School after losing their first match away against Nease High School. They were striving to come back from their loss and win this match and they did just that.
Line one doubles consisted of sophomores, Ashley Larger and Rachel Marino, and they lost a tough neck and neck match 0-2. Line two doubles, junior, Amy Cox and senior, Madison Schramm winning 2-1. Finally line three doubles, sophomore, Kailey Rogers and junior, Olivia Herman losing 2-3 in a tiebreaker 9-10 by one point.
The lineup on singles was made up of line one Larger winning, Cox on line two, Schramm winning on line three. In addition, sophomore, Cait Sheehan winning on line four, line five with Marino winning, freshman Sophie Giligan winning on line six. Finally, Kailey Rogers on line seven, sophomore, Juliette Rao on line eight winning, and Olivia Herman on line nine. Rogers and Herman didn’t play singles due to playing line three on doubles. “It was a very tough match, both teams kept on scoring one after another,” said Rogers. Overall, the Sharks pulled out a win for their first home match and are striving for another great season.
