Sharks Show Glimpse of Success but It Does Not Last Long

By Rocco Garcia

The Ponte Vedra High School Sharks Baseball team hosted Eagle’s View Academy on Mar 28, in effort to prolong a win streak. The Sharks went up early in the first inning with a wild pitch scoring senior outfielder, Cade Eidam. In addition, the Sharks added three more in the bottom of the second. Then Freshmen catcher, Caleb Stanton singled scoring senior outfielder, Parker Gunnell. Then, Eidam singled and scored two runs. Roshan Patel, the starting pitcher for the night, stated that, “A lot changed in that game, for some reason our defense just clicked and we played lights out.” The Sharks continued to add on runs, making the score 11-0, and Patel shut the Warriors down in the top of the fifth and securing the no hitter.

The Sharks traveled to Providence School of Jacksonville to play the Stallions on Mar 26. The Sharks were hoping to catch a win streak but were shot down by the Stallions’ hot bat. The Stallions put up two in the bottom of the first, six in the second, and four in the third. The Sharks wanted to start a rally but only scored 5 runs bringing the final score to 13-5. The Sharks dropped to a 3-9 record but had an upcoming big district game at St. Augustine High School Yellow Jackets on Mar. 28.

The Yellow Jackets started off hot taking a 2-0 lead, but the sharks stormed back scoring one in the second and four in the third. The Yellow Jackets struck back scoring one in the fifth and one in the sixth. “We have a lot a fight left in us and district play is just getting started,” said Patel. With the score being 8-5, the Sharks tried to mount a late rally but fell short losing another game bringing their record to 3-10. The Sharks will play Ridgeview High School on Apr. 2 at home in a rematch of last year’s regional quarter finals.
