Senior Advice For Rising Freshmen

By Koa Davidson

As graduation approaches it is common for Seniors to reflect on their time at Ponte Vedra High School. The following are words of advice which Seniors have to upcoming freshmen on how to make the most of their High School experience.

  • Colby Green pleads for students to: “Embrace struggle. Struggle is life. You’ll only feel like you’re living when there’s struggle.”
  • T.J. Gavazzi reflects: “If I could give my Freshman self-advice it would be, if you are busy and physically healthy you will stay mentally healthy. Leisure is the thing that kills dreams.”
  • Vaughn Armstrong remarks: “Not wanting to do something is not a good enough reason not to do something.”
  • Griffin Morgan warns: “Although school is important, it’s also important to build a foundation for life after school. I wish I could’ve used the large amount of free time I had Freshman year on learning a skill or working out. Being healthy and having a stable career path, I think, are going to stick with you for longer than what you learn in school.”
  • Stefan Cristea says: “Don’t focus so much on the past. When I was a Freshmen I was so focused on thinking about how much I missed middle school and also thinking about things that could’ve been that I didn’t think about what I could do now to make my future look like what I wanted my past to be.”

“If I could give my Freshman self-advice it would be, if you are busy and physically healthy you will stay mentally healthy. Leisure is the thing that kills dreams.”

  • Shane Harry tells rising Freshman to: “Challenge yourself with harder classes. Highschool is about getting ready for the challenges life gives you. Honestly, I was afraid to take honor and AP classes. But once I took them, I realized they’re actually not that hard.”
  • Bobby Moore explains: “Don’t sleep on extra-curriculars. A lot of colleges are pretty competitive now. Grades are important, but there’s so many students with really high GPAs applying now that you need to find something other than just good scores to make yourself standout. On top of that extra-curriculars are a really good way to get in touch with your community and meet people.”
