On Mar. 30th Ponte Vedra High School’s (PVHS) indoor percussion group traveled to the Daytona Ocean Center to compete in the FFCC Indoor Percussion State Championships. The group is in the Percussion Scholastic A McCormick’s Division and tied for first place with River Ridge High School, the bronze medal going to Fleming Island High School. This is the third year in a row that PVHS’s indoor percussion group has earned a top three placement, they won second place in 2023 with their show “The Puppeteer,” then won third in 2024 for their show “The Matrix,” and finally this year with the show “On Air.” This year’s show was based around childhood and joy, with the aspect of the show based around flying a kite. This group is the first group of any kind to win first at state championships. An additional academic scholarship went to senior at PVHS Jake Smith. This year has been a exceptional one for not only just indoor percussion but also just the PVHS band in general, as their outdoor group put on a amazing performance at both state championships they traveled to last year earning third at FFCC Outdoor Championships and second at FMBC Outdoor State Championships. The next outdoor season is going to be interesting to see if they can live up to the performance the PVHS band put up this year.
