Boys Soccer Closes an Incredible Year

By Rocco Garcia

The Ponte Vedra boys soccer team started their playoff debut with another matchup against the St. Augustine Yellow Jackets. The Sharks were quiet in the first half of the game until sophomore midfielder, Noah Ostfeld, scored the first goal of the game. Going into half the score was 1-0, but the Sharks were surely not done just yet. After the half senior striker, Thomas Ardnt, put up a solo goal to stretch the lead to 2-0. Following that, the Sharks put up their final goal to conclude the game at 3-0. The Sharks would plan to take on the Beachside Barracudas on Jan. 30.

The Sharks traveled to a neutral location to take on the Barracudas for their first matchup of the year. Both teams’ offense was extremely slow for the entire game. The score at the end of regulation was still tied at zero. The game went into overtime but junior keeper, Keegan Cornett, penalized a Barracuda in the penalty box to force a penalty kick. Cornett sadly couldn’t stop the penalty kick and the Barracudas won 1-0. The Barracudas won the district championship taking the trophy out of the Sharks hands.

“I love this team and what we accomplished. We have a lot to be proud of. Thank you PV!”

The boys traveled to the panhandle to take on the impressive 14-1-4 Arnold Marlins. The Marlins started off fast with a goal early in the first but the Sharks responded with junior winger, Nick Churchill shooting but it being deflected but then Arndt came and finished with a goal. The rest of the game was slow, the score was still knotted at 1 and then the end of regulation occurred. Senior defender, Matt Brown, stated “I love this team and what we accomplished. We have a lot to be proud of. Thank you PV!” The boys went into overtime and the Marlins took over. The Marlins put up two goals in overtime ending the game at 3-1 and sadly ending the Sharks season.

The boys have a lot to be proud of, having a 13-4 record was the best it has been since 2022. Despite having no commitments for college, the Sharks took on every game with the most amount of effort possible.
