While the rest of the student body took winter break, the girls’ basketball team took this time to intensify their workload and better their team. Over the course of the break, the Sharks had an up and down line of games as they finished going 2-2 with wins against Stanton and Nease. The win against Nease was not only a nail-biting finish, 39-37, but was also a game that everyone on the team had circled on their calenders.
Tocoi Creek Toros was seemingly able to do whatever they wanted against the Sharks, beating them 72-42, but the girls used that as motivation leading to their thromping of Stanton 71-44. Senior, Ellie Walsh stated “We need to start building momentum for the post season. We can’t expect to go on a possible championship run playing so spotty like we are now.” With eight games remaining including a rematch with Nease and a heated rival in Bartram Trail, the Sharks have plenty of time to compose themselves and fine tune their skills in order to hoist a trophy for the second year in a row.

Freshman, Jocelyn Hoffman continues to lead the team in nearly all statistical categories, further cementing her historic debut year as a Shark. Her 12.6 points per game and 33 percent field goal percentage are in the top tier of the county, and is sure to propel her to an all-district nomination if she keeps up her strong performances. Junior, Arden Doherty is close behind with her 12.1 points per game and 2.1 steals per game. The two-headed monster of Hoffman and Doherty are the bright spots of a young core that will only improve as the games go on.
