Boys basketball looks to end season strong

The Ponte Vedra boys basketball team is off to a mediocre start to begin the season at 9-10. The Sharks have pulled out several games by the skin of their teeth with six of their nine wins won by three points or less including overtime wins against St. Augustine and Frankfort High School in Kentucky. Junior, Alex Madson leads the team in scoring with around an 11-point average per game. This team is still growing accustom to Coach Whirity’s style of play through the first half of the season. Max Houser, junior, said, “Everyone is super dedicated to the team and to each other and we have a bright future.” The team is still very young with lots of juniors and sophomores getting playing time which will set up experienced leaders and players for the years to come.

The Sharks lost to the crosstown rivals Nease High School 47-45 after coming off two hard fought victories in the same week. Although, they still have time to sharpen up for the rematch, this time in unfamiliar territory at Nease.   With so many of these games being decided by a single basket it is crucial that the Sharks are playing their best basketball as the playoffs near.
